Wendler 531

Today I'm starting a strength program by the name of the Wendler 531 program. I have dabbled with it in the past using it as a supplement to my Crossfit workouts. The difference is that I am going to fully commit to the program outline and follow it as prescribed without any modifications. I will be implementing some met con work to keep my conditioning, but the main focus is to become strong like bull. I have set some goals for the lifts I will be performing that I would like to reach at the completion of the program. The program is laid out to be completed in cycles. A cycle consist of 4 weeks, the fourth being a deload week. My intention is to follow the program through the remainder of 2012. My 1RM goals are as follows:

Back squat: 485lbs
Deadlift: 500lbs
Standing Press: 190lbs
Bench press: 330lbs

I weighed in today at 169lbs, I have no goal in mind as to where my weight should be; I just want to get strong. I will be eating moderately healthy, but will not be going crazy and focusing all my energy in life on eating perfectly.

Psalm 18:32-34  the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless. He made my feet like the feet of a deer  and set me secure on the heights. He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

5.18.2012

I won an umbrella set at work today. That's how my day started, winning. From there the day went pretty well, after I got off work I picked up Lauren and we met her brother Taylor at the driving range and hit way too many golf balls. I now have a blister on my finger from slaying too many balls. And when I say slaying I mean literally disintegrating the golf balls. Every time I tried to crush the ball it would disappear out of sight. I could only think of three possibly reasons why this kept happening:

        1. I actually disintegrating the golf balls by the raw beastliness that was created from my golf swing.
        2. I was terrible and when I hit the golf ball it either went completely to the right or completely to the       left out of the vision in which I was looking for it in.
        3. I have terrible vision and can't see the ball after it gets past the first 20 yards.

After some intense thought, I decided that reason number 1 is the best choice. From the driving range, we went to a new mexican restaurant in Gallatin, TN since our usual one was way too crowded. Upon sitting down and looking over the menu Lauren and I noticed that the menu had some severe grammatical errors. I won't expose all of them but one that I just can't pass up sharing came from the Seafood section. The title of the Seafood section was Seatfood. The menu was the most terrible menu I have ever laid me eyes on. The pictures of the selected food items were so stretched out that I could actually count the number of pixels in the picture of the signature taco dish. Oh well, we ate there with Taylor and his wife Kristen and we had an excellent dinner and the conversation was even better. After the trip to Mexico and my introduction to Seatfood, we went to Red Robin to attend the dinner party for Lauren's friend Sarah who got engaged tonight. At Red Robin, we sat and talked with Angi. I can honestly say that I don't think I have laughed as hard as I did tonight while hanging out with Lauren and Angi. Today was a great day and I'm pumped about this relaxing weekend that's ahead.

Training:

Today I took a rest day and I'm looking forward to training in the morning.

This sums up how I felt after my day of rest:

5.17.2012

This is my first post. I am starting this blog to document my life as well as my training/exercising. Today was awesome and I drank a lot of milk, hopefully tomorrow will be equally as awesome. Lauren and I are looking forward to a relaxing weekend after raging hard all week since our friend Kyle was in town. Lauren is my Fiance and we are getting married in September. She may also be referred to as "sevvy." You shouldn't think anything of it or look too deep into it. She is just a sevvy. I am hoping to wake up in the morning to go to the gym, but we will see how that plays out.

Training:

C2 Rower
     -2000m Row (7:53)
-EMOM perform 3 Hang Power Snatches for 15min. (every minute on the minute)
             -First 10 min (115lbs)
             -Next 4 min (135lbs)
             -Last min (155lbs)

I felt really good tonight, I have been recovering from a back injury that happened earlier this year in early March. I just started training fairly intensely again on Monday. I will be trying a different approach to training than what I have been the past few months. I am going to program my own training and really try to be in tune with my body and listen to it, rather than follow somebody else's training program. Could be bad, could be good, who knows.  My current goal: Become the raging warrior, by entering a trance like warrior state! (quote from my buddy Nic)

Current Stats: 5"10, 172lbs

Last but not least, I will end the night with some motivation: Techno Viking
